Swissrail Sustainability Study
Sustainability as the Key to the Future of the Railway Industry
In collaboration with Eraneos, we have developed the Swissrail Sustainability Study and are excited to present the results to you. Around 80 companies provided valuable insights into their strategies and progress towards a sustainable future. The study’s findings show that sustainability in the industry is no longer just a trend but has evolved into an integral part of corporate strategies.
Key topics include the reduction of CO2 emissions, resource-efficient operations, and the use of renewable energy. A quarter of the surveyed companies have already set concrete goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, with digitalization identified as a major driver of transformation. However, there is still significant room for improvement, especially in terms of data availability, the implementation of formalized sustainability strategies, and the adoption of standardized reporting formats.
The study highlights that external pressure from regulatory requirements, tender specifications, and customer demands plays an important role. Nevertheless, companies need to develop a stronger intrinsic motivation to achieve their sustainability goals in the long term and more effectively. Here, digitalization offers enormous potential, for instance, through the use of monitoring systems, innovative technologies like digital twins, and the optimization of supply chains.
Companies that seize the opportunities of sustainability early and strategically leverage digitalization can gain a significant competitive advantage. This not only concerns environmental responsibility but also economic benefits, such as cost savings and increased employer attractiveness.
