Dynamics Simultation for Vehicle Homologation

Dynamics simulations can be used as the cornerstone of the homologation process and can be combined with on-track testing, to conduct tests with regard to unusual behavior, such as running without a functioning signalling system or exceeding permitted line speeds. For operators, this approach allows you to quickly and efficiently identify whether anticipated operational gains, such as the reduction of journey times or increasing payload, are indeed achievable. While for manufacturers, simulations enable the early identification of safety and technical issues, helping to minimise project delays.

WHY IS DYNAMICS SIMULATION FOR VEHICLE HOMOLOGATION IMPORTANT?

Dynamics simulation for vehicle homologation services provide several benefits for manufactures and operators:

  • Save time and money by reducing on-track testing to minimise your costs
  • Minimise risks by executing simulations under controlled conditions, which avoid unpredictable results and costly retests and delays
  • Gain a competitive edge as a vehicle manufacturer, by shortening project lead times and reducing costs, especially in projects for multiple vehicle variants; as operator by realising operational gains such as reduced journey times and increased payloads

TÜV SÜD IS YOUR EXPERT FOR DYNAMICS SIMULATION FOR RAIL VEHICLE HOMOLOGATION

TÜV SÜD understands the commercial pressures of both rolling stock suppliers and vehicle operators, and has specialist railway test laboratories fully accredited to EN17025. We have therefore developed a new approach to the vehicle acceptance process, which reduces the total cost, increases flexibility, shortens project timelines, and reduces project risks. By using cutting-edge vehicle dynamics simulations, TÜV SÜD can reduce the need for on-track vehicle testing.

TÜV SÜD’s unique combination of vehicle dynamics simulation expertise, extensive knowledge about relevant regulations and a fully EN17025 accredited railway test laboratory, enables us to develop the right vehicle homologation strategy for you. As a NoBo, AsBo, DeBo and ISA, we can support from project conception to the final signed certificate as well as offering an independent third-party check of your own simulations.

OUR DYNAMICS SIMULATION SERVICES FOR RAIL VEHICLE HOMOLOGATION

The current technical specification for interoperability relating to rolling stock, for both locomotives and passenger vehicles (LOC & PAS TSI), and the newly published EN 14363:2016, create new opportunities for vehicle dynamics computer simulations to complement or reduce on-track testing.

When using this method, the vehicle dynamics model is validated using test results. This validated model is run through a “virtual” EN14363 test regime, to determine whether the running characteristics of the vehicle are satisfactory. TÜV SÜD’s exact approach will be tailored to meet specific project needs, according to the technical parameters and the level of available in-house knowledge.

TÜV SÜD is able to offer not only simulation and testing services but also any required Notified Body (NoBo), Assessment Body (AsBo), Designated Body (DeBo) or ISA (Independent Safety Assessor) services. Alternatively, we can use adequate test data which already exists to validate the vehicle model. Finally, as an independent party with the relevant expertise, we are also able to provide an independent assessment of your own simulations, minimising the risk of costly delays.
