After welding, the rail profile no longer corresponds to the original contour due to the welded seam. In order to prepare the welded rail section for the demanding use on the track, the profile is reprofiled by grinding.

This process takes place within a short time window, but without changing the steel structure by exceeding the maximum permitted heating of the steel.
