Swissrail en Suisse romande 2025
Innovation must be created in Switzerland and then carried out into the world
At our Swissrail en Suisse romande meeting, we brought together representatives from industry and operators to discuss current challenges, develop solutions, and strengthen collaboration within the rail system – with a clear focus on Swiss innovation.
But we didn’t just talk about innovation – we also experienced it first-hand at Swisspod, where we visited their Hyperloop infrastructure on the EPFL campus.
The workshop revolved around four main topics:
- AI Technologies, presented by Lorenzo Niola (Swisspod) and Roberto Castello (Swiss Data Science Center)
Artificial intelligence can significantly increase efficiency in the rail system. At the same time, people and organisations must adapt – the system needs to remain robust, safe, and reliable. - Innovation in Public Passenger Transport, presented by Michele Mossi (GESTE Engineering)
A key question is always: why innovate? Often for economic reasons – but innovation should primarily enhance passenger comfort. - Promoting Young Talent, presented by Raphaël Zürch (Freiburgische Verkehrsbetriebe, TPF)
Career choices are shaped as early as ages 10 to 15. That’s why it’s vital to spark enthusiasm among young people – especially girls – for our industry. - Cost Optimisation in Infrastructure Construction and Maintenance, presented by Elena Luzio (Scheuchzer SA) and Chi-Hung Trieu (Kummler+Matter AG)
The key lies in partnership-based collaboration, enabling cost optimisation and stronger cooperation across the sector.
A big thank-you to all participants, moderators, and hosts for the inspiring and enriching discussions!
