Comfort, economic efficiency, safety and availability are the success criteria for railways from Swiss production.
Swiss vehicles on the ground and in the air prove themselves on all continents. Ground-independent aerial cableways and cable cars are inexpensive alternatives to buses, trams and undergrounds in cities and agglomerations. Thanks to the low ground requirement, adaptable capacity and free from environmental pollution they stand before a promising future.
Where capacity increases in the infrastructure through more tracks and longer platform edges at reasonable costs are no longer possible, double-deck trains help to satisfy the passenger requirement in short as well as long-distance travel.
With 7 percent gradient, the Bernina Railway is one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world with the highest summit in the Alps: 2,253 meters above sea level. Where the inclination is so strong that the friction wheel/track is no longer sufficient, then the cogwheel takes over: today cog railways are only manufactured in Switzerland.
